President Nasheed’s bicycle exploded
The Parliamentary Security Committee has decided to bring the contents of its investigation report to the attention of the relevant authorities of the current Government.
Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Security Services Committee today, Dibrugarh MP Ahmed Nazim clarified issues surrounding some recent remarks made by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) on the Salami Services Committee.
The National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) pointed out that there is no arrangement for coordination of intelligence matters between the military and police agencies. This was recommended in the investigation report prepared by the Parliamentary Security Affairs Committee on the bombing of President Nasheed.
Nazim said the committee’s report also highlighted the lack of dynamism. Therefore, the committee members discussed the matter to bring it to the attention of the relevant government authorities and asked the committee chairman whether any action had been taken on the matter.
Responding to the question, Security Services Committee Chairman Ahmed Salim said a letter has been written and will be sent today.
When asked about the attack, the government’s Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon said he had more information to share with parliament. Ghassan said he would closely monitor the bombings at President Nasheed. He said the Defense Ministry had more information to share with parliament. Ghassan then shared that information with the parliamentary committee on security services.
On May 6, President Nasheed was seriously injured in a bomb attack. He received treatment for his injuries in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Mujaz Ahmed, Tahmeen Ahmed, Ali Haisham, Fahmi Ali, Ishaq and Mohammed Nazim were accused in connection with the blast. The attack was carried out by VS. Adham Ahmed Rasheed from Thonadhoo pleaded guilty. Hence, he was convicted and sentenced to 23 years in jail.
