JAKARTA: A volcano on Indonesia’s remote island of Halmahera erupted on Monday (May 27), spewing a grey ash cloud up to 6km high, the country’s volcanology agency said, and issued a warning to aviation authorities managing local flights.

The country had previously raised its volcanic alert level to the highest level on May 16.
