In March this year, an investigation was launched into Péter Magyar’s Facebook posts. The investigation began based on a tip from an unidentified person – it is known that this is why Péter Magyar appeared at the witness hearing of the Investigating Prosecutor’s Office in Budapest, and then in connection with this, he published a recording of his famous conversation to his ex-wife Judit Varga. KNYF announced in June the termination of the investigation into the case and published a detailed decision.
However, the 30-day deadline for the whistleblower to appeal the decision expired this weekend. According to Katalin Kovacs, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office, no motion for reconsideration was received from anyone in the General Prosecutor’s Office.
Since he did not file such a motion, the authority’s decision will not be reviewed.

Péter Magyar promised to make a recording of his hearing with which he could prove his claims. He also published the recording and its transcript You can read it here.
Nine witnesses in connection with the case testified, including Judit Varga, Antal Rogán and Gergely Gulyás, as well as the people in the recordings, who said they were unaware of any obligation to report and did not do so.
As a result, the Attorney General’s Office closed the investigation without finding a crime.
Reacting on Facebook during the press conference, the chairman of the Tisza party wrote that the press conference was surreal, as if we were in the 1950s. According to him, the prosecutors “sweatily tried to explain that, despite what the former attorney general said in the recording, no crime had been committed.” Calling the contents partly lies and partly a deliberate misinterpretation of the recording, he promised to refute the prosecutor’s claims in detail. He also added that if Peter Polter is no longer the chief prosecutor, the prosecutor’s office will reopen the case and “investigate deliberate violations committed in the current investigation.”
