Australia is offering 494 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) scholarships to Solomon Islanders, reflecting the importance of skills training to economic development.
Australian Foreign Minister, Senator Penny Wong, has announced 494 scholarships for Solomon Islanders to help them gain the skills and qualifications needed for employment in Solomon Islands and abroad.
Since 2021, Australia has helped create more than 14,700 jobs through its development partnership with the Solomon Islands, including through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) program.
Minister Wong was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Peter Shanel and Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Tozen Leokana.

“These scholarships will provide Solomon Islanders with fully funded qualifications that will equip them with work skills and experience in sectors such as construction, tourism, hospitality and agribusiness to improve job readiness and boost the Solomon Islands economy,” Minister Wong said.
The TVET scholarships complement Australia’s long-standing skills program, the Australia Pacific Training Consortium (APTC), which has trained more than 2,566 graduates at rural training centres in Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western and Isabel provinces.
