The young woman recounted how she came close to death several times during her long journey through Sebta. Chaimae had swum for a full five hours before she reached the municipality. During the journey, she had to face strong currents and heavy fog. “We couldn’t let ourselves be controlled by the sea,” she explained.
Some internet users accused Moroccans of encouraging other young people to risk their lives by travelling to Spain. Chaimae responded that this was not true and ensured that his video was intended to draw attention to the risks of such travel. In August, five Moroccans died at sea while trying to swim to Sebta.
