Late yesterday evening, a landslide derailed two ICE freight cars carrying 185 passengers in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. According to a railway spokesman, the passengers were not injured and were taken off the train during the night. Schwäbisch Gmünd is located about 50 kilometers east of Stuttgart. Like most parts of Baden-Württemberg, it has been raining heavily since Friday.
The first two carriages derailed at around 11:20 p.m. but did not overturn, according to a railway spokesman. The landslide was about 30 meters wide. The train passengers were supposed to stay at a nearby kindergarten and then take a bus to Prudhausen.
At the site of the landslide, the affected area road is parallel to the railway line. Therefore, a car was also affected by the landslide. Its driver was not injured.
