Hurricane Debbie hit Florida, bringing heavy rains and flooding, and more than $1 million worth of cocaine washed ashore. Acting Chief Patrolman Samuel Briggs II of the U.S. Border Patrol in Miami announced on social media that 25 packages of cocaine weighing about 70 pounds were found on a beach in the Florida Keys.
“A Good Samaritan discovered the drugs and contacted authorities. The U.S. Border Patrol seized the drugs, which have a street market value of over $1 million,” Briggs shared in a post on X.
Hurricane Debbie made landfall in Florida on Monday, bringing dangerous winds, heavy rains and severe flooding. The Associated Press reported that five people have been killed in the storm.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Tropical Storm Debbie was near the Florida-Georgia border as of 5 p.m. Monday. The aftermath of the hurricane is still ongoing, with authorities dealing with severe damage from the storm and unexpected discoveries such as packages of cocaine.
