Senate President Hun Sen announced that a budget of $100,000 per year will be provided to support the Cambodian Artists Association for 5 years starting from 2024. This announcement was made during a meeting with Ms. Mao Zhannan, President of the Khmer Artists Association, on May 28, 2024. At the same time, Mr. Hun Sen also instructed the new president of the association to review the conditions for maintaining the values of Cambodian artists.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Hun Sen said the five-year $100,000 funding was provided to support the association and continue to promote Cambodian art, noting that the Cambodian Artists Association had encountered many difficulties. In addition to providing financial support, Mr. Hun Sen also asked the association’s new president to review the conditions for maintaining the values of Cambodian artists and the Ministry of Culture must set standards for the association to implement.
Mr. Hun Sen then urged the association led by Ms. Mao Channan to help train young artists with clear skills and work ethics instead of treating the association as a charity. In response, Ms. Mao Channan expressed her firm commitment as the new president of the association for its sixth term.
Ms. Mao Channan said that the association will revise its internal charter to plan and implement the vision and aspirations of Cambodian artistic excellence, including the performance of Cambodian culture on the national and international stages. At the same time, Ms. Mao Channan is also committed to protecting the rights and interests of members, including seeking philanthropists to support art and social activities and contributing to the improvement of social morality and the professional ethics of artists.
