Libreville, Thursday, August 1, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The work entitled “How to Explain the Olympic Games (JO) to Children” by Gabonese writer Dr. Mireille Essono Ebang and Gabonese student Gleyn Ndong Essono in France was presented at a recent presentation.

The 2024 Olympic Games, which are currently being held in Paris, France, are not only held in designated locations to follow the different sports, but also in terms of teaching. As two Gabonese show us, who have written a book explaining the Olympic Games to children.

Through this masterpiece, the two collaborators allow young people to read through the book’s 43 pages what they really remember and know about this great global sporting event. They describe the Olympic Games as a grand sporting celebration where the great stars of the sporting world come together to compete in passion, physical endurance, and above all, skill and physiological experience.

Thus, readers will discover the origins of this competition, which dates back to ancient Greece in 776 BC, organized in honor of the god Zeus. They will also learn that the modern era of the Olympic Games, promoted by Pierre de Coubertin, began in Athens, Greece, in 1886, with the motto “The main thing is to participate”. All in clear and simple language to help children understand.

“On campus, two second-grade students are talking to their teacher about the Olympics. The gymnasium is covered with posters of the Olympics.” This sentence is the first sentence of this little book. The two students are Pierre and Marie, who ask the teacher about the nature, origin, history, reason for existence and spirit of the Olympics.

The teacher, the teacher, happily answered the questions of both children, in fact instructing the model readers of this work, the youngest children – but not only. The drawings, which appear on the left pages, each illustrate the master’s point and at the same time expand his text. They are very successful.

In the second part, the book provides multiple choice questions. This is the interesting aspect of the project. The questions asked are related to both the points mentioned in the booklet and general knowledge related to the history of the Olympics.

The book How to Explain the Olympics to Children, by author Dr Mireille Essono Ebang and illustrator Gleyn Ndong Essono, is published by Ntsame Editions in Libreville.
