In 2023, household final consumption expenditure rebounded after the health crisis, but at a much slower pace (+0.8%). Inflation was high in 2023 (+7.1% per year), especially for food (+12.2%): expenditure on these products fell by 3.1%. On the other hand, consumption of services increased, but at a lower rate than in 2022, especially for activities affected by the health crisis and still in a catch-up phase (restaurant and accommodation services; entertainment, sports and culture).
The purchasing power of household disposable income increased slightly (+0.8%, +0.3% per consumption unit): the growth of total disposable income was moderated by strong price growth. The household savings rate remained almost stable: at 16.9%, it is still above the pre-crisis level.
