Indian authorities arrested Kannada film star Darshan Thugudeepa in the southern Indian state of Karnataka 10 days ago on charges similar to those in the thriller film.
Darshan is among the 17 people arrested by the police for the murder of Renuka Swamy, a 33-year-old fan of the actor, whose body was recovered from a stream.
Earlier this week, Bengaluru city police commissioner P Dayananda said Renukaswamy was “murdered in an extremely cruel and barbaric manner” and described it as a “heinous crime committed in a horrific manner”.
Police said they believed the 47-year-old actor was angry at the victim, who worked for a pharmaceutical company, for sending obscene messages through social media to actress Pavithra Gowda, who was described by Indian media as Darshan’s girlfriend.
