West Indies celebrate winning the 2016 World Championship

– The International Cricket Council (ICC) has granted international status to the charity match between World T20 champions West Indies and the Rest of the World XI, which will be held at Lord’s in England, to raise funds for Caribbean cricket grounds damaged by two recent hurricanes. The match is scheduled for May 31, 2018 and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with funds raised going towards the repair of Windsor Park Cricket Ground in Dominica and James Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, both of which were badly damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria last year. “Hurricanes Irma and Maria have devastated parts of the Eastern Caribbean and we have been considering how the CWI can support our region in the most effective way,” said Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Dave Cameron in a joint statement with Lord’s owner Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). MCC secretary Guy Lavender added: “The MCC has enjoyed a relationship with the people of the Caribbean for over a century and we were proud to have provided relief to those devastated by last year’s hurricanes. I look forward to seeing a full house helping to raise funds to restore vital cricket facilities.”

Windsor Park is the Caribbean’s newest Test match cricket venue and has hosted the Indian, Pakistani, Australian and Bangladeshi cricket teams since it opened in 2009.
