The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday arrested Haryana Congress MP Surender Panwar and his son Lalit in a money laundering case related to illegal mining activities in the state’s Yamunanagar district.

Sources revealed News 18 The probe agency took over the investigation last year after the Haryana police filed multiple FIRs against Panwar and others for illegal mining activities.

In early January this year, Indian authorities raided as many as 20 premises linked to Panwar, former Indian Nationalist Party (INLD) MP Dilbag Singh and their related entities in Yamunanagar, Sonipat, Mohali, Faridabad, Chandigarh and Karnal under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The case involves large-scale illegal mining of sand, boulders and gravel in Yamunanagar and adjoining areas in Haryana, in which Singh and Panwar and their accomplices are allegedly involved.

Panwar, the MP from Sonipat constituency, and Singh, a former MP from Yamunanagar, are involved in mining.

The ED initiated the investigation following multiple FIRs filed by the Haryana police and a directive from the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
