The state will host a competitive race this year that could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate in 2025.
Trump’s flight was reportedly diverted to another airport in Montana due to mechanical problems.
“I just landed in a very beautiful place: Montana,” Trump said in a video of the plane posted on social media, without mentioning the mechanical failure.
“I’m here to raise money and most importantly support Tim Sheehy, who’s running for U.S. Senate and we think he’s going to do a great job. We’re going to have a rally. It’s going to be fun.”
Shea will face Democratic Sen. John Tester, who is seeking a fourth term.
Crowd size
In Phoenix, an estimated crowd of more than 15,000 people greeted Harris, including some pro-Palestinian demonstrators who interrupted her speech. Harris has faced the wrath of liberal voters who disagree with her support for Israel’s response to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.
“The president and I are working around the clock every day to get a ceasefire and get the hostages home,” Harris said in her speech. She added: “So, I respect your voice, but we are here to talk about the 2024 campaign.”
Earlier this week, when some people protested and interrupted her speech during a rally in Michigan, she had said: “If you want Donald Trump to win, then say so. Otherwise, I spoke.”
Trump on Thursday mocked Harris’s campaign support numbers, even though their numbers have recently been comparable to Trump’s.
He falsely compared the size of the rally on January 6, 2021, the day his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, to the number of people who heard Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington in 1963.
