KAMPALA, Uganda – Shockingly, police doctor Julius Muhwezi testified in the high-profile Katanga trial on Tuesday afternoon, denying some of the details in Form 24 submitted by the police as evidence.

He told the court the form had been tampered with.

Curiously, Charles Otia’s Police Form No. 24 has two stamps on it, with different dates for his medical examination.

Defense lawyers said the doctor did not actually examine the suspect, but Dr. Mwezi insisted that he did. Kaluhanga also questioned Mwezi’s conclusion that Otai was mentally sound, even though the former was suffering from asthma and had not yet received treatment.

Otai had told him that he suffered from asthma but was not receiving treatment.
