Myagdi on July 21. A golf tournament was held at 5 Lowthang, Lomanthang township, Mustang, at an altitude of 4,645 meters.
The golf tournament held in Lowthang is said to be the highest level golf tournament in the world. The Lomanthang township government has previously held golf tournaments there twice.
Indradhara Bista, general manager of Mustang Golf Course, revealed that 60 players will participate in the third edition of the tournament to be held on August 1.
He said the purpose of holding the tournament was to develop tourism through sports. He said the tournament would be played in the Stableford format with nine holes due to the high altitude.
In order to make the competition more international, 15 Indian players were also invited. Bister said that any player who scored a hole-in-one on the 3rd hole would receive the Yak Award.
Bista said they will conduct a unique and interesting practice of rewarding yaks in the golf tournament. It is estimated that it will cost Rs 700,000 to host the tournament. The tournament, to be held in August 2022 and 2023, aims to get the golf course, which was built two years ago, into the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest golf course in the world.
Previously, the Yak Golf Course at an altitude of 3,970 meters in Sikkim, India was considered the highest golf course. The center of the Lovatang Rural Municipality is located on the road from Lomantang Bazar to Sidolpa. The road has been extended there. A golf course has been built on a grassland in an open space about three kilometers wide.
The structure including tee boxes, fairways, greens, front and back tee boxes were made for golf. You have to drive 12 km from Lomanthang to reach the golf course. It takes 30 minutes to reach from Lomanthang by car.
