Glavchev: I don’t understand how Bulgaria could have convened the Security Council earlier

The government will equip two more firefighting helicopters as soon as possible. This became clear after the Council of Ministers’ security meeting. It will cost 250,000 Bulgarian levs to purchase the so-called “BGN” “water bag”, BNT reported.

“The most effective are helicopters. We have two that work continuously, and we keep another one to rescue people if necessary. We will try to buy equipment for two more helicopters in the short term, because the two Czech helicopters have proven to be very helpful,” Zapriyanov said.

The Council also discussed the possibility of minimizing the period of compensation for victims. All those affected by the fire can receive emergency assistance from social assistance agencies up to 1,578 levs.

A fund under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food will provide compensation to legal entities and people registered as farmers who lost animals or had their crops destroyed. Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova assured that a compensation mechanism will also be sought for natural persons who lost farm animals.

Decisions are still being made on how to help those who have lost their homes. Temporary housing could be sought for families in need.

Prime Minister Glavchev once again praised the work of various departments and agencies.

“We have not stopped working since the disaster. I spoke to firefighters with 20 to 30 years of experience and they said they had never seen anything like it.

From my visits I saw no omissions nor heard any remarks. The only place where there was a difference of opinion on the subject was the village of Worden, but there was a difference of opinion there too. In all other places the inhabitants were very grateful to those who had saved their lives and property. No one was injured, which is a great achievement. ”

The Security Council meeting was attended by leaders of parliamentary parties, the ministers of finance, transport, social policy, energy, deputy ministers of the interior and agriculture, representatives of the presidential office and the services sector.

It was decided to continue interaction between the agencies.

“Everybody came together to congratulate and thank the firefighters, military personnel and volunteers who were there, and I don’t think there were too many different opinions from the administration on how the whole thing was run,” Grafchev said.

Temenuzka Petkova from GERB-SDS commented: “Inside the committee, reports on the services were heard. The parliamentary side expressed the desire and ambition to work together and to provide common solutions for the fire victims.”

PP-DB considered the meeting useful, but a little late.

“Very useful meeting – very constructive, a little late. Let’s see in what areas the National Assembly can help the Council of Ministers. Today, after this discussion, specific decisions will be submitted and considered. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas also believes that the council is beneficial.

“The Ministry of Finance has made a very pragmatic proposal on which aircraft to buy and what are the options for available aircraft in order to prepare a comprehensive plan for the National Assembly to staff the fire service for rapid response. We hope that this proposal will be useful when the discussion on this starts next. What should be done now is to compensate these people and then buy equipment,” said Borislav Gutsanov of the BSP.
