The 23-year-old man went to the girl’s home and took her to the river where he raped her before strangling her to death
A man is suspected of raping a seven-year-old girl and killing her while she was home alone while her parents went to vote, police said on Sunday.
The incident allegedly took place at a village under the jurisdiction of Kulyana police station in Mayubjanj district of Odisha on Saturday.
They added that the 23-year-old man came to the girl’s home and took her to the river where he raped her and then strangled her to death.
Villagers found the girl’s body and arrested the suspect, who they later handed over to the police.
A police officer said a case has been registered under Sections 376AB (rape) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
