Germany beats Denmark to advance to quarterfinals

Germany beat Denmark in the 2012 European Football Championship to advance to the quarter-finals.

Germany beat Denmark 2-0 in the round of 16 to advance to the quarter-finals. Germany scored two goals in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Germany took the lead from a penalty kick. The referee awarded the penalty kick after a hand foul by Danish defender Joachim Andersen. The ball hit the bottom corner of the goal. Goalkeeper Schmeichel dived to his right but the ball went wide. The referee awarded the penalty kick after confirmation by audio technology and VAR.

Joachim Andersen scored shortly before the penalty. The referee ruled the goal offside with the help of VAR. Germany’s second goal came from Jamal Musiala. In the 67th minute, Musiala’s shot from goalkeeper Noah went wide of the post.

Germany started the match well. Denmark entered the game in the last 20 minutes of the first half. But ten minutes into the half, the referee adjourned the match due to heavy rain that flooded the stadium. The match resumed about 15 minutes later.

In the second half, both teams had more chances to score. In the 3rd minute, Germany took the lead through a corner kick. However, Nico Scherbeck’s header helped the visiting team take the lead, but the referee ruled a foul after Germany’s Kimmich gave Nico Scherbeck a chance.

In the sixth minute, Kimmich’s shot from 25 yards went wide of the post. The next minute, Germany headed in a corner kick, but the goalkeeper cleared it. Denmark’s best chance of the first half came from Joachim Meier, whose low shot from outside the box went wide of the post.

Kai Havertz’s header was saved by the goalkeeper in the second minute of play, which was interrupted by bad weather, while defender Nico Scholbek’s low shot went wide of the post in the same minute.

The score was expected to become 3-0 in overtime. But Florian Watts’ goal was also rejected by VAR. In overtime, the Danish goalkeeper also blocked Kai Havertz’s golden opportunity.
