Engr. Giovanni Gemmani, entrepreneur and manager active in leading Italian and international industrial sectors (as he is also known, Vice President of the SCM Group), has in recent days announced a contract to acquire the entire branch of Alluminio Sammarinese SPA, a company founded in 1981 and active in the high-quality transformation of aluminum and related machining, ensuring full continuity of business with a view to further strengthening and relaunching. The closing of this operation, which has been authorized by the competent judicial bodies, will be completed on August 7th.

Engr. Gemmani, who is awaiting further details on the operation, wishes to express his “sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, from the San Marino Government Institutions to all employees, for their effective and proactive collaboration in making a success of an initiative that is of vital importance to the social, economic and entrepreneurial context of the Republic of San Marino”.

The action was carried out with the assistance of the financial part of the company of Dr. Pier Maria Albini and the legal and contractual part of the law firm Cocco & Gigante. Dr. Albini himself was one of the first to comment with satisfaction on the news: “I have gone through this in a very difficult way, both from a professional and human point of view,” he told RTV. “There were states of anxiety and moments of euphoria. But it is one of those experiences that you will never forget in your life. I must thank the Court for the timeliness and competence of the measures and activities it has taken, which have allowed the company to move forward, but also for the closeness of the relationship,” he stressed. Also important are the relationships with “the employees who are very close to me, who put up with me when it was not easy for me and who gave more than they could. I also want to thank the unions.”

Even Teodoro Lonfernini, former Minister of Labor and current head of Education and Culture, commented on the news with great satisfaction via social media, saying he was “delighted” by the news and thanking employees, unions, liquidators, banks and professionals who collaborated. Lonfernini called Germani a “serious and determined entrepreneur” and claimed that within his power, the result was: “The government acted quickly and courageously.”

Unions satisfied: “Relieved”

“After almost a year of worries and difficulties, the 130 workers of San Marino Aluminium can finally breathe a sigh of relief and look to the future with more confidence and stability”, the CSdL, CDLS, USL trade unions express their great satisfaction with the outcome of the dispute regarding Allumino Sammarinese SpA, which has been concluded with the acquisition of the subsidiary of the company by Alunova Sammarinese Srl. “The end of this operation”, they explain in a note, “guarantees the preservation of all jobs and unions, in addition to ensuring the continuity of the production base. They will remain committed to following the developments and how to formalize the conditions for the workers’ transition to the new ownership. The recognition of all those who made this rescue operation possible comes from the workers themselves, who must be given the main merit of never giving up despite the adversities they have experienced”.

Commission: “The Italy-San Marino axis has strengthened”

The San Marino committee also commended Alluminio Sammarinese SpA for the rescue and security provided to the 130 workers, including several cross-border workers. President Alessandro Amadei said: “To make such an impressive investment in a turbulent international environment full of unknowns like the current one requires a combination of courage, flexibility, creativity and adaptability, focusing on one’s skills, constantly innovating and seizing opportunities that arise in times of crisis and economic slowdown. We have no doubt that the entrepreneurial action just completed by our compatriot Giovanni Germani will be an extraordinary success and will leave an indelible mark on the economic fabric of San Marino. On the other hand, Amadei continued, the rescue of Alluminio Sammarinese SpA by an Italian industrial group is a testament to the unbreakable economic ties between Italy and San Marino, deeply rooted in the history and culture of the two countries, whose destinies have always been intertwined. However, in the face of future challenges such as the intensification of global competition, it is necessary for the two countries to constantly strengthen their cooperation and integration. The economic world is constantly transforming due to a series of interconnected factors such as technological innovation, digitalization, energy transition, sustainable development, climate change and new consumer needs, and new economic sectors offer great opportunities for growth and development”. Comites San Marino thanked “all the parties who worked for the survival of the company”.
