After collapsing on April 26 during an event organized by the San Sebastian regional government to commemorate the ikurriña, the vice-general of the province of Guipúzcoa, Martín Garitano, said this Monday that he is in good condition, a fact he stressed after “three years of going too fast, you take a toll on the body.

In this way Garitano referred to the incident in which he fainted on April 26, when he was about to participate in the large Ikurinha Raise event in Constitution Square in San Sebastian, with the subsequent transfer to the Donostia Hospital in the capital of Guipúzcoa.

This Monday, the Vice-General will attend the Zoroga Foundation Tercentenary Celebrations, which will be held at noon in San Sebastian. The Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will also be present at the event.

Martin Garitano explained that he does not remember what happened, since the last memory he had before he fainted was that he was in the office with the provincial representative and that the “next scene” he remembered was already in the ambulance that took him to the hospital. “I fainted because of stress. I think that sometimes we live too fast and the body takes a toll on us. I’ve been driving at high speed for three years and it takes its toll. The other day I didn’t feel well and that same day I drank not coffee but lime blossom, for the first time in my life, because I didn’t feel well,” he explained.

Moreover, he stressed that this act “is important for everyone” because, as he said, “what we wanted to do and what we finally did was an act based on respect, because we demand the same respect for ourselves that we offer to other towns”. “This is why Ikurinha exists, because we want what is ours while respecting what is others’, and we demand the same respect for the flag that symbolizes our people”, he said.
