Multiple Champion Hurdles medallist David Green has decided to end his sporting career.
The 38-year-old Welshman is a successful athlete in both the 400m flat and 400m hurdles, in the latter he became world champion in 2011 and was crowned European champion a year earlier.
After the 2012 London Olympics, Green began to suffer from various injuries. Although Green was able to continue to participate in the competition, he was unable to return to his previous height.
“My career could be viewed as having two sides. By the age of 25, I had won everything except an Olympic gold medal, but despite that, I felt I had not realized my true potential,” Green wrote on social media via the Post.
“I should have spent 2013 to 2016 honing my skills and maximizing my running talents, but a botched surgery derailed those plans. I was never able to return to my peak, although I occasionally see glimpses of the athlete I once was.”
Green narrowly missed out on a medal in her only Olympics, finishing fourth in both the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay. The former world champion plans to focus on coaching in the future.
