Former Australia goalkeeper Mitch Langerak will return to Melbourne Victory in January on an 18-month contract, the A-League club said on Saturday.

Langerak currently plays for Japan’s Nagoya Grampus and will return to the team where he began his career before joining Germany’s Borussia Dortmund in 2010.

“Mitch’s quality speaks for itself,” Victory coach Patrick Kisnorbo said. “He has played at the highest level in Europe and has been very consistent in Japan.”

“His character, professionalism and attitude to football are an example that all footballers should emulate and we look forward to his arrival in January.”

The 35-year-old head coach was a member of the Australian national team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and a year later, he served as Matt Ryan’s backup when they won the Asian Cup on Australian soil.

Langerak will move to Melbourne after the Japanese season ends.
