Firefighters from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources battle a forest fire in the town of La Cienaguita, Jarabacoa, La Vega province.
Gerónimo Abreu, in charge of environmental fire management and management programs, explained that the incident was caused by the fall of high-voltage cables.
“As a precautionary measure, we coordinated with the Emergency Operations Center (COE) to cut off power to the area and requested support from the structural firefighting teams in Buena Vista and Jarabacoa to prevent the fire from affecting villas and cottages in the area,” Abreu said.
