A Barbados has been placed on a flood warning. The Barbados Meteorological Service (BMS) said the tropical cyclone was affecting the island and the associated excessive rainfall was likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas across the island early overnight.
Possible impact
- Standing water on roads and fields could cause commuter delays and could result in localised diversions in and around the city.
- Rising water levels in existing water bodies (e.g. ponds, etc.).
- Excess water with minor intrusion on roads, fields, storm drains/canals and property.
What You Should Do
The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages as well as local media networks for further updates.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the tropical cyclone brought 1 to 2 inches of rain across the island in the late afternoon. Another 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible early overnight, along with isolated thunderstorms, before conditions improve.
A Flash Flood Watch is issued when heavy or very heavy rainfall in a short period of time (usually less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding in the monitoring area. This does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.
This flash flood watch or warning was issued at 7 p.m. Sunday and will be lifted by midnight tonight or earlier, conditions permitting.
