The pain clinic at the Panevezys Republican Hospital did not become the salvation expected by a Panevezys resident who lost part of a lung and suffered severe pain after a tumor operation.

The patient has registered with his specialist and is scheduled to be seen in five months.

Medical institutions explained that the long queues were not only due to the lack of doctors, but also because of the good reputation of the pain clinic, which attracted patients even from major cities across the country.

Albertas Astrauskas worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist for many years and was well known to many Panevezys residents.

Now, the old doctor has to personally open the door of the medical institution and receive guidance for serious illnesses.

On March 15, A. Astrauskas underwent surgery for the tumor – part of the lung was removed.

After several weeks in the hospital, the seriously ill patient was discharged home with pain medication.

“My body could not tolerate the drugs – I was vomiting and had diarrhea. I contacted my family doctor and she explained that she was not authorized to prescribe approved drugs – only tablets. I still had five ampoules, and tablets. I said, doctor, I am very sick. He suggested referral to the pain clinic”, says A. Astrauskas.

When patients who are going through the postoperative period come to the pain clinic of the Republic Panevėžys Hospital, they are told that they must first register.
