Malta Energy said a widespread power outage on Gozo was caused by a fire in an electric cable.
Malta Energy said in a statement late on Tuesday that a fire in a cable had caused a power outage on the island of Gozo. The fire then affected another cable that supplies power to the island.
Civil Defence personnel were called in to bring the situation under control before Energia Malta had to shut down all cables in the culvert that supply Gozo.
Many people on Gozo were frustrated by the blackout, as it took Energy Malta hours to explain the outage.
The sentiment was shared by Nadur Mayor Edward Said, who complained on Facebook about the lack of information and explanation.
Nationalist MP Ryan Callus pointed out that the Malta Electricity Company’s blackout map showed no signs of a power outage in Gozo.
“Are you going to be so despicable? Hiding information from the public? Isn’t it enough that you have failed to provide a stable service to Maltese consumers?”
