SINGAPORE: A fire that broke out at Golden Mile Complex, an office and shopping mall on Beach Road, on Saturday (Aug 31) has been put out.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post at 2:30pm that the fire was a “multi-car fire”. The force was alerted to the fire at around 12:50pm.

“The fire involved several cars in the car park and was put out by the Civil Defence using two streams of water cannon,” the Civil Defence Force said, adding that police and Civil Defence Force evacuated about 45 people.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said three people were injured due to smoke inhalation but refused to be taken to hospital.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force, which is investigating the cause of the fire, said preliminary findings showed that the vehicle that caught fire was not an electric car.

At 2:30 pm, a CNA reporter spotted at least nine Civil Defence Force vehicles parked outside Golden Mile Tower. Several firefighters emerged from the building.

Mr Jimmy Myo, a kitchen helper at the Golden Mile Thien Kee hotpot restaurant in the basement of the building, said the fire alarm went off at around 1:30 pm. The boss asked him to evacuate, and then about 11 employees went to the building entrance.

Mr Myo, 36, said he heard a fire broke out in the sixth-floor carpark, with about six vehicles on fire. Staff waited about 20 minutes before returning to the restaurant, but were asked to evacuate again.
