PARIS: Basketball is looking forward to giving fans and players a great experience at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where the tournament basketball games will be held, at the new stadium of the Los Angeles Clippers, the head of the sport’s world governing body said on Sunday.

“The IOC’s strategy of scheduling the (future) two Olympic Games in advance not only allows us to predict, but also gives us the confidence to provide very good conditions for the athletes,” said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.

“We are returning to the country where our sport was invented, to ‘Basketball City,’ and we want to provide a great experience for our athletes. That’s our vision.”

“I’ve visited the arena and it’s designed for a top-notch experience for the fans and a top-notch experience for our players.”

Zagklis said the fan base for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams has grown after success in Paris and Lille, in part because of two exciting finals between host France and the United States.

Zagklis credits this to the plans implemented by the federation and the World Cup, with the next women’s World Cup to be held in Berlin in 2026 and the men’s World Cup in Doha in 2027.

“National team competitions, including the Olympics, attract new fans… The World Cup provides the necessary platform.”

“We are using these big events as an attraction and driver to invest in growing our league. We will go to Los Angeles with a great platform and team,” he added.
