The ministry said discussions have been held to arrange for the replacement of the ice plant to proceed smoothly.

The discussion was chaired by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam and PHE Managing Director Muaz Mohammed Rashid.

The ministry said fishermen allocated ice plants will be provided with ice until the replacement process is completed.

PHE stated that the operation of the ice plant was not part of the company’s service objectives and that the company was unable to provide services to the ice plant due to the condition of the plate heat exchanger.

Muaz said the ice plant cost the company more than Rs12 million per month. He said the company decided not to operate the ice plant after discussions with MIFCO and relevant agencies.

When the present government came to power, PHE was operating ice plants in 25 villages. The company was awarded the contract to operate the ice plants.

The ice factory is a service that provides ice to fishermen.
