In this year’s VCÖ train station test, Feldkirch train station was named one of the most beautiful train stations in Austria. Bregenz Main Station once again fell to the bottom of the ranking.
Vienna Westbahnhof, Lienz in East Tyrol and Frohnleiten in Styria were honoured in this year’s railway station test by the Austrian Traffic Club (VCÖ). According to the VCÖ, around 13,500 passengers rated the stations based on 16 criteria. Passengers once again voted Vienna Central Station and Feldkirch in Vorarlberg as the most beautiful railway stations.
Bregenz home station ranked last
Vienna Westbahnhof was rated the best among the main railway stations in the state capitals. The convenience of public transport and the brightness of the building were particularly praised. Passengers saw potential for improvement in cleanliness, toilets and sanitary facilities. In second place were Salzburg Central Station and Vienna Central Station. As in previous years, Bregenz Main Station ended up at the bottom of the list, it was reported.
In the category of large train stations outside state capitals, Lienz in East Tyrol won, followed by Tulln in Lower Austria and Weiz in Styria. Lienz scored particularly high for accessibility by foot and bicycle as well as cleanliness and accessibility.

Among the smaller train stations, Frohnleiten in Styria was ranked highest, followed by Feldbach in Upper Austria (also in Styria) and Sankt Georgen an der Gusen.
From a passenger’s perspective, the most beautiful train station in Austria is still Vienna Central Station, followed by Salzburg Central Station. Among the train stations outside the state capitals, Feldkirch (Vorarlberg) was named the most beautiful, ahead of Lienz (Tyrol) and Attnang-Puchheim (Upper Austria).
