Thomas Crooks, the gunman who attempted to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump on July 13, spent months tracking targeted rallies before finally zeroing in on a rally for the Republican presidential candidate in Pennsylvania, FBI officials said Wednesday. Kevin Rojack, a senior FBI official in western Pennsylvania, said the FBI has not yet determined Crooks’ motive for trying to assassinate Trump because the gunman’s computer activity did not clearly show he was motivated by left-wing or right-wing political ideology.
