Farmers Meat and union successfully conclude wage negotiations

Farmers Meat Slaughterhouse has successfully concluded wage negotiations with the Namibia Food and Allied Union (NAFAU).

The slaughterhouse, located outside Mariental and a subsidiary of the Olthaver & List Group (O&L), has reached a new one-year substantive agreement with the union, valid from July 1 to June 30, 2025.

O&L said this underlines the company’s unwavering commitment to its employees and the Namibian community.

Farmers Meat said it remained steadfast in its commitment to the well-being of its employees despite the challenges it has faced. “This agreement reaffirms our determination to deliver on our 2029 Vision and our brand identity of being authentic, caring and welcoming,” the company added.

Farmers Meat managing director Marco Wenk said the agreement demonstrated their commitment to maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.

“Our people are our greatest asset and we strive to strike a balance between ensuring their well-being and maintaining the sustainability of our business,” he said, adding that they were proud to have reached an agreement that was good for both employees and the company.

NAFAU branch organiser Simon Muukapo said the union was happy with the outcome of the negotiations, adding: “The agreement reflects the strong relationship between NAFAU and Farmers Meat”.

Meanwhile, Employee Relations Manager Shikondjeleni Heita said the signing of a substantive one-year agreement with NAFAU symbolizes the continued good relations between the two parties. “Through timely engagement, we ensure that negotiating employees receive their salary increases in a timely manner.”
