At the Estonian Tennis Championships, in the women’s singles competition, two of the higher-ranked players, Elena Malugina and Meilin Nudi, reached the final.
Malungina did not have much trouble in the semifinals, defeating unseeded player Valeria Gorlach 6:1, 6:0. “I was a little nervous at the beginning, but I quickly mastered my game style and played very accurately on the offensive end,” Malungina said.
“I’m also very happy with my serve. I don’t think I played worse last year, even though I lost in the semifinals. It’s hard to compare whether it’s better now. It just didn’t work out last year.”
In the second semifinal, Nudi defeated seventh-ranked Anna Maria Totrup 6:2, 6:3. Malungina lost to Nudi in the last match of the Pärnu Championship last summer. He hopes the final will be interesting.
“Melin is playing very well now, but I am also in good shape,” said Marugina. “I believe the audience will be very excited and enjoy watching the final.”
Similar to the women’s tournament, the top two tennis players will compete in the men’s final. No. 1 Kristjan Tamm defeated No. 5 Robin Parts 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:0, 6:2.
“Robin started strong and hit good volleys. I pushed the leg well but he recovered everything from the half bounce,” Tam described at the start of the match.
“The stool, and mine TiebreakerI lost the lead, which was my own fault, but all in all I played to my level – the more the match went on, the more I got into the game.”
In the second semifinal, No. 2 Markus Molder defeated No. 3 Sim Troost 6:4, 6:4, 6:2. “I played very solid today, even though I didn’t do anything special to win. I played at my level,” Molder said.
“If I didn’t concede the ball, of course you can be satisfied, but I probably played more aggressively at the back and didn’t make a lot of mistakes.”
Molder added that he made a conscious decision not to compete in the doubles tournament and focus only on singles.
The final day starts at 12:00 at Tallinn Kalevi Tennis Club.
