In the 2012 European Football Championship, England defeated Switzerland 3-5 on penalties and advanced to the semi-finals.

England will face the winner of Turkey, the Netherlands, in the semi-finals.

Neither team had many scoring opportunities in the first half, but Switzerland took the lead in the 75th minute when Swiss striker Briel Embolo crossed into the penalty area and scored the winning goal.

Five minutes later, Bukayo Saka equalized for England. Saka scored from outside the Swiss penalty area.

The match ended in a tie after 90 minutes, and the next two halves of extra time went to a penalty shootout. Switzerland lost the shootout after Manuel Akanji missed a penalty. Akanji’s penalty was saved by England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. England won the match with a penalty from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
