The Election Commission of India plans to hold a press conference at 3 pm on Friday. According to Zee News TV, the Election Commission is likely to announce the date of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections at the press conference.
Although the names of the specific states were not specified, Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand will hold assembly elections, according to PTI citing the agency’s invitation.
The term of the legislative assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra will end on November 3 and November 26 respectively. The term of the Jharkhand legislative assembly will end in January 2025.
Following the Supreme Court order, the Election Commission plans to schedule elections in Jammu and Kashmir by September 30. If held this year, it will be the first assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir in a decade, with the last one held in 2014.
The Election Commission will announce the dates for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana later today. The Commission will hold a press conference tonight to provide detailed information about the upcoming elections.
