The Association of Consumers of Mauritius (ACIM) conducted a field survey at various points of sale on August 8 to find out the price of eggs. Purchases were made in several locations, especially in the areas of Port Louis, Moka, Saint-Pierre and Bagatelle.
“We are monitoring market developments and have conducted surveys. We have seen an increase in egg prices. Many buy their eggs in small shops. “Observation of this decline shows that the price of a medium-sized egg in these establishments ranges from Rs 11 to Rs 13. Surprisingly, in supermarkets, larger eggs are sold for Rs 9.30 each. Surprisingly, supermarkets catering to slightly wealthier customers are priced lower than other establishments where the price is over Rs 10.” In addition, at some points of sale no prices were displayed.
