Sanitary conditions of abandoned land

At the end of Goodlandsbank Road, a plot of land abandoned by its owner has become a real scourge for residents. Over time, the place has become a den for drug addicts and a wild dumping ground for all kinds of waste. Vegetation has taken over the land, with vines even invading streetlights, plunging the neighborhood into worrying darkness every night.

It is a daily nightmare for residents living nearby, who not only witness illegal activities but also have to endure dead animals being dumped on the land, with the rotting carcasses emitting an unbearable stench.

Nevertheless, residents are fed up with this tragic situation and wrote a letter to the Rivière-du-Rempart District Council in February, asking for a proper cleanup. But so far, no concrete action has been taken. Even the environmental police came, but to no avail. The local authorities responded to the residents’ demands by citing a lack of personnel and equipment to justify their inaction. They have never stopped complaining about their inability to do anything about this environmental disaster, but their requests for help seem to go unanswered. Residents are once again calling on the District Council to take responsibility for restoring the cleanliness and safety of their community.
