Eels beat Bulldogs, Panthers take on Bears

The Awati Unikau Eels consolidated their top spot in the Cook Islands Rugby Union Rarotonga Club 15s competition with a comprehensive win over the Titikaweka Bulldogs yesterday afternoon.

The Clive Nicholas-coached side beat the Bulldogs 50-8 at Aretre Park in Awatiu after leading 26-3 at halftime.

The Eels narrowly won their first match of round one on July 19, 26-13, but they managed to defeat the Bulldogs in yesterday’s crucial second-round clash.

In today’s men’s final, the Arorangi Bears faced the defending champions, the Tupapa Panthers. In the first round, the Bears surprised everyone by defeating the Panthers 13-3. It was a tight contest that was decided in 76 seconds.^day Minutes later, Bears forward Geoff scored a touchdown.

The Panthers will be looking for revenge, led by captain and star goaltender Daniel Toya. Toya’s accurate shooting and ability to control the game from the front 5/8 makes him a key player for the Panthers.

On the other hand, the Bears, who are known for their “rise from the ashes” mentality, will come into this game as the underdog, especially after a tough few weeks.

But with Jeff at the helm and a never-say-die attitude, they were ready for a tough battle.

Saturday will also see a series of junior and women’s matches, starting with the U6/8 Rippa and U10 Tackle at 12pm. The U12s will battle it out at 1pm, followed by the senior women’s event at 2pm. The U14s will show off their 7-a-side skills at 2:30pm, and the U16s will close out the junior events with a 10-a-side match at 3pm. The top men’s event will get underway at 4pm.

With the semi-finals just around the corner, all teams will be hoping to gain momentum and confidence from this weekend’s games. Fans can expect spirited performances as the players give their all to win for their team.
