The High Committee of Malian Residents in the Diaspora (CSDM) stands by the transitional authorities in the crisis between ECOWAS and AES countries. This was done through a press release issued last week in Côte d’Ivoire jointly with the High Commission of Mali (HCM) and the National Youth Council (CNJ).
It is well known that there has been little communication between ECOWAS and the three countries of the Sahel Alliance, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. For good reason, the three countries under military rule decided to withdraw from ECOWAS after the coup. After this decision, ECOWAS issued threats.
One of the threats ECOWAS has made to AES countries and their nationals is to provide visas for nationals of the three countries to enter the ECOWAS region. This now makes nationals and businesses of the three countries subject to the laws of the host country. The sub-regional organization has also enacted several other measures if the three countries eventually withdraw.
After the ECOWAS issued these threats that loomed over the AES country, a group called the Association of Malians in Côte d’Ivoire (ECOWAS) circulated on social networks a request for authorization to demonstrate in front of the Malian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, in opposition to the Malian authorities’ withdrawal from ECOWAS.
The CSDM, together with the Ivorian High Commission for Mali (HCM) and the Ivorian National Youth Council (CNJ), issued a joint press release condemning and denouncing the above press release. The three Fatir recalled that they were the only ones authorized to speak on behalf of the Ivorian Mali community.
The CSDM took the opportunity to reiterate, along with the other two groups, its solidarity with the Malian authorities and its support for the transitional President of Mali, Colonel Assimi Gouta. It concluded by calling on all its members and Malians in Côte d’Ivoire to remain vigilant and mobilize in support of the Malian authorities.
