Drugs life-threatening abroad; Sri Lanka taking action

Sri Lanka has begun taking steps to combat the increase in the circulation of dangerous drugs abroad, the Ministry of Internal Security and Technology has announced.

The Ministry of Public Security issued a public safety warning in this regard, saying that the production and circulation of dangerous drugs containing fentanyl on the international market have increased. The health ministry said the drug contained powerful chemicals.

The Ministry of Health said in a notice that the drug, commonly known as “Chinese White”, is a life-threatening drug. Therefore, the public is urged to be vigilant. The Ministry of the Interior, the National Drug Administration and relevant agencies are jointly taking action.

The amount of drugs smuggled into Sri Lanka has increased recently. Authorities said large amounts of drugs were smuggled or attempted to be smuggled, and sometimes life-threatening amounts were seized.

Some people died from drug overdoses.
