SINGAPORE: Several areas in Singapore will be given a facelift as part of the latest round of improvement works under the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP).
The Housing and Development Board (HDB) said on Saturday (June 1) that it has identified 23 projects. These projects cover dozens of HDB flats in areas such as Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Yishun, Clementi, Choa Chu Kang and Pasir Ris.
The government will allocate more than S$95 million (US$70 million) for these projects, which are expected to benefit more than 15,600 families.
The Neighborhood Renewal Program was launched in August 2007, focusing on the renewal of neighborhoods and districts built before 1995.
Possible improvements include a new playground, fitness corner, covered pathways, a drop-off porch and a seating area on the sky deck.
“The improvements in each project are tailored based on feedback from residents on the features they would like to see in their neighbourhoods,” HDB said.
The works are fully government-funded and delivered by the town councils, which will employ their own design consultants and construction contractors and oversee the progress of the projects.
In view of rising costs, HDB will provide town councils with larger budgets for the latest batch of projects as well as ongoing eligible projects.
Currently, the NRP is budgeted at S$4,700 per unit, comprising S$3,400 per unit for block-level and district-level works, and S$1,300 per unit for repair and redecoration works.
The subsidy amount for these NRP projects will be increased to S$6,100 per unit.
