Dominican Olympic gold medalist Thea Lafond Gadson to receive Dominica’s highest national award

Dominican Olympic gold medalist Thea Lafond Gadson will receive the country’s highest national award, the Dominican Honor Award.

British Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced a series of rewards at a concert in her honor at Windsor Park, including $400,000, some land in Warner, and a diplomatic passport.

A large caravan of people drove from Portsmouth to Roseau on Sunday in memory of Thea Lafond-Gadson, who won gold in the triple jump at the Paris Olympics.

Mr Skerrit added that plans for Dominica’s new synthetic running track will continue and when completed it will be known as the Thea Lafond Gadson Track and Field Complex.

The prime minister also announced that other Dominican athletes participating in the Paris Olympics will each receive $20,000.
