Jove Galant said Israel does not want war. His comments came after the killings of Hezbollah’s top military commander Fuad Shukr and Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian militant movement Hamas, in Tehran.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said on Wednesday that Israel does not seek to escalate the war but is ready for all scenarios. At the same time, he praised the Israeli army’s attack on the commander of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement in Beirut. TASR reported the incident, according to Reuters.
“We don’t want war, but we are preparing for all possibilities,” Galant told Israeli soldiers from the Arrow air defense force, according to the Times of Israel news portal.
Sukir and Hanija killed
The visit came after Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fuad Shukr, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Tuesday and Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian militant movement Hamas, was killed in Tehran early Wednesday morning.
The Israeli military said in a statement that Shukur was the right-hand man of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and served as his adviser on military operations, adding that he directed Hezbollah attacks on Israel and was responsible for Saturday’s attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which killed and wounded children and teenagers at 12 noon on Saturday. Galant described the Israeli army’s performance on Tuesday as “focused, high-quality and skilled.”
Iranian media reported on Wednesday that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in a rocket attack on a “special residence for war veterans” north of the Iranian capital, Tehran, with his death also confirmed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and the Hamas movement itself.
