Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko assured the Malian authorities of cooperation and solidarity in Dakar under the leadership of President Diomaye Bachirou Fayé and in Bamako. “Senegal will not do anything that could destabilize Mali, at least not under our regime”. This assurance was made by Ousmane Sonko on Monday, August 12, 2024, during a working visit to Bamako to show Senegal’s solidarity with Mali after the terrorist attack in Tinzawatni.
Mr. Sonko extended his greetings to the people of Mali, who he considered to be engaged in a legitimate struggle to defend their sovereignty and against the cowardly phenomenon of terrorism.
Before calling on West African countries to unite, the Senegalese Prime Minister condemned the ECOWAS sanctions against Mali. “ECOWAS takes it very seriously and despite its considerations, if it was our regime that was doing this, we would have firmly opposed our veto and would never have imposed an embargo on Mali from Senegal,” he regretted.
