Bangladesh has lifted a curfew and released jailed opposition leader and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned.

The meeting with military officials called for the immediate release of Bangladesh opposition leader Khaleda Zia and all those arrested in the country’s protests, Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin’s office said in a statement.

The curfew in Bangladesh will be lifted tomorrow morning and government offices will resume operations.

Khalida Zia was sentenced to 17 years in prison for corruption.

Protests by university students against job quotas imposed by the Bangladesh government escalated, culminating in protests that stormed the palace where Hasina resides and the country’s legislative assembly.

Bangladesh’s military is working to form an interim government after Hasina, who has ruled the country for 15 years, resigned.

More than 300 people have been killed in protests in Bangladesh since last month.
