CSKA legend Asparukh Nikodimov gave his opinion after the Red Army’s 1-0 defeat to Slavia. He insisted that more Bulgarian players should be included in the first team and that the team lacks quality.
“I am very angry that Bulgarians do not play in our leading teams. We recruit all kinds of foreigners who do not play anything and do not have the necessary courses. They will not make a difference because they do not have the qualities. Unfortunately, the situation is getting worse and worse. I will not say that Tomislav Stipich is the only culprit. Now it is said that more new players will be brought in from abroad, but I am interested in who is evaluating them. This is retail. Money is spent, players of questionable quality are brought in, and then it turns out that they are not suitable for CSKA and it was a mistake to attract them. CSKA is full of such players”, commented Asparukh Nikodimov to Mach Telegram.
“If you don’t have your own shots, you’ll see that it doesn’t work. At least the core must come from Bulgarians. Foreigners should be hired only if they have the necessary qualities to improve the team’s level. Those who deal with this issue should think in this direction. Otherwise nothing will happen. We need people who understand. It’s better to give a footballer more money and let him do a job, rather than the other way around. Pick two or three players from the top class and let them pull the team forward. Bulgarians don’t play in the leading teams, and then we wonder why the national team hasn’t been ranked on the main forums for 20 years. The job is not good, and it will get worse if it doesn’t change”, he added.
