BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) — China’s National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its biweekly national political consultative conference on Thursday to discuss how to improve e-commerce regulation.
Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference unanimously agreed that e-commerce has become an important engine of economic growth, and its rapid development has made important contributions to economic growth, employment, and improvement of people’s livelihood.
But they added that some problems still exist, including the sale of counterfeit products, infringement of intellectual property rights, false advertising and the security of personal information.
Some CPPCC members called for accelerating the advancement of e-commerce legislation, supervision and standard-setting, promoting a better combination of technology and supervision, and studying emerging and potential problems in the development of e-commerce.
They suggested that the responsibilities of government departments and e-commerce platforms should be reasonably defined, that the government should support and regulate platform development, and that the platforms should fulfill their obligations such as protecting consumers’ personal information.
CPPCC Chairman Yu Zhengsheng presided over the meeting.
