Imost This week, we look at Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick. The week started with horrific news: a gunman tried to overrule the democratic choice of millions of Americans by assassinating Donald Trump. Fortunately, the gunman was unsuccessful and Trump was only slightly injured, but a bystander was killed and others were seriously injured.
Our early cover designs emphasized how close America came to having its presidential election upended. Our initial idea was to draw a bullet, plain and simple, with the Stars and Stripes painted on it. We also considered a more subtle image: the Stars and Stripes with a bullet hole on the edge of the top stripe, with blood pouring out of it, just like from Trump’s cut ear.
