Court sentences Vassar woman to 3 years in prison for foiling school shooting plot | Yle News

The 23-year-old from Vaasa was found guilty of preparing to commit an aggravated crime endangering life or health and of possessing a firearm.

The court also ordered Kormonen to hand over weapons, including a pistol and a knife she had intended to use to commit the crime. She was also stripped of her military rank and will be sent to Hämeenlinna prison.

A long-planned attack

The suspect went to the Isokyrö school in South Österbotten in March carrying a weapon and was arrested following a tip-off from Vaasa police about a video she had uploaded online the day before, outlining her plans.

During the trial, it was revealed that the defendant had begun planning the campus attack as early as 2021.

Weapons found in the defendant’s vehicle included a loaded handgun, seven nearly fully loaded magazines, a fast charger for handgun magazines, 190 rounds of ammunition, a knife and a Molotov cocktail.

inside Judgment At the trial in mid-May, prosecutors asked for the woman to be sentenced to up to seven years in prison, stripped of her military rank and undergo a psychiatric examination.

The case was heard over two days at the Osterbotten Regional Court in Vaasa. Prosecutors and defendants can still appeal.
